A number of Teaching Scholarships will be available to PhD candidatesbeginning courses in October 2008. Teaching scholarships offertuition fees (at the home/EU rate), a stipend for 3.5 years and adefined teaching role and training programme. They offer the chanceto gain valuable teaching experience and career development at thesame time as carrying out doctoral research. The teaching workload,including training, preparation and marking time, will be 90 hoursper year (equivalent of a half day per week, based on a three-hoursession, during term time, i.e. for 30 weeks per year).

ELIGIBILITY
Full-time PhD candidates (UK, EU and overseas). Only candidates whohave or expect to obtain at least a first or upper second classhonours degree (or equivalent) should apply. Please note that somedepartments may also require a masters degree. Candidates whose firstlanguage is not English must obtain an IELTS score of 7.0 or above (orequivalent).Value of scholarshipTuition fee (at the home/EU rate) and a partial stipend of at least�5,000 for 3.5 years (or 2.5 years for existing students enteringtheir second year). Overseas candidates will be required todemonstrate, before the offer of an award is confirmed, that theyhave sufficient funds to cover the balance of the overseas tuitionfee.

AVAILABILITY
Departments go through an internal bidding process between Septemberand November each year to establish the distribution of thesescholarships among Departments.
